Another new one!! This one was really quick. It was for Bobbby Chiu's sketchoholic regular contest for his interviews. The guy he interviewed was a storyboard artist for How to Train Your Dragon. The contest was only a couple of hours from sketch to final and the subject was Goth Dragon. I had fun with it!

OK. So I am getting back on track with a new sketch after having a sort-of vacation last week with a ton of family in town. This little booger either ate too many burritos or had WAY too much soda... either way HE'S GONNA BLOW!!!!!!!!

A Tragedy/Comedy Character

Ya know... dragons would be a great addition to a circus if they actually existed. Imagine three brothers... The great Dragolinis. They are Gastrissimo, Terrifio, and Bud. Gastrissimo is the tightrope act who has a tendency to eat too much and show off. Terrifio is a bit timid and yet has the most dangerous trapeze act. Bud... well they love Bud. He is the... burping juggler. He is very caring but a little slow demonstrated by his juggling act that uses a large amount of grape soda and only one juggling ball. His brothers try to get him to add more juggling balls but always in mid juggle. Needless to say this is a bit confusing for him.

His design is still coming along but above are Gastrissimo and Terrifio.

So I finally got my hands on a WACOM Cintiq tablet(Best thing I've ever used!!) and got upgrades on all my software and operating system( Painter 11, PS CS4, Leopard). I also got Autodesk SketchbookPro 2010. That sketching program is a definite MUST HAVE for any character designer or digital illustrator!! Check out the results from it above!

A fun rendition of mine for the classic tale "The Reluctant Dragon" by Grahame. Disney did a great version of this but changed some significant details... as they ALWAYS do. The Knight in the classic tale is an elderly Saint George not Sir Giles. Anyway enjoy...

Crowe the Hunter

Have a lot of directions I can take this character. Everything from a reimagined OZ type of story... dark and violent... to a simple vengeance story of a man putting on a mask to avenge his families murder... it would take place in a very Halloweenesque world. This is the 3rd version of this character. Starting with the 1rst that I designed for Advanced Photoshop Mag in a tutorial, the 2nd for an advertising image for my illustration services and now this 3rd one for possible story work.

I had a lot of fun with this. It's a character design created for the "Folklore" video game creature creation contest for the PS3 and Sony. This would be so sweet to win.

Imagine getting knocked out by a blast of mist from this guy's helmet. He gives it one pull and woosh you're out like a light!
